Hi, I have few questios for ya. I am gonna go get another Betts today, and I would like to put him in a community tank because I don't have the money or the room for another 5 gallon tank. I would like to put him in with my Mollies and Platys which have somewhat brackish... somewhat brakish cause it don't have enough salt to be totally brackish. Would he be ok in with them? Are platys or Mollies nippers at all? Also I can put him in with my Gourami, but I've heard thawt they are agressive fish so I don't really know about that. My Gourami had a Pleco in his tank before but I took him out cause he got too big, and then I put a female Betta in with him and they picked on eachother, with the Gourami doing the brunt of the picking. So, what do you think that I should do? I do have a few spare 2 gallons if I can't put him anywhere else, but like I said, I would perfer to put him in with something. Thanks

the platies would be fine in fresh... they are not as partial to brackish like mollies can be

that said depending on your betta the platies would be the best bet... although some bettas would take offence at the bright colors some platies have and go after them

i have my betta in my community tank with mollys, i do not have brackish water, but they get along fine, the betta will be the most aggressive in the tank, but it should be ok.

Bettas are picky. Sometimes they will attack ANY fish that they see within 10 yards, while other times they'll leave any and all fish alone!

It just depends on your betta. But that aside, platies aren't brackish water fish. They are freshwater livebearers. Mollies, while some say they do well in brackish water tanks, others will tell you they thrive in an equal fashion in freshwater w/o salt. I myself never used salt in a tank with mollies as they were always in with plants. Mine never seemed to suffer...

...perhaps its personal preference?

Well, I put the Platys in with the Mollies cause I've heard that they are brackish, but then I heard that they aren't. I put my Mollies in brackish cause when I put them in fresh, 2 of them ended up dying on me. All of them are fine now, and the brackish don't seem to bother the Platys, they act perfectly fine in it, and like I said, it don't have enough salt in it to really be counted as a full brackish tank. But anyways, I decided to just build my own tank for a Betta.... a lot cheaper in the long run. Wish me luck :)
