I currently have two goldfish and three bala sharks in my huge aquarium tank. Can I put a male betta in there? The one goldfish is a fancy fin anf the other is a regular one.

:fairy: My huge tank is a 50 gallon tank. When I got my fish i got them at petsmart and they said it was fine for them to be in the same tank.my goldfish and bala sharks have been in the same tank together for 2 years now and they are doing great. The water is heated and I'm not sure what the water level readings are because I haven't checked in a while but you can bet that I will when I get my pay check.

Well...here are some questions that you will be asked by the others to help you with this. First...how big is your "huge" tank..in gallons. What are your water test numbers..ie nitrite level, ammonia level, nitrate level and your ph?

I am relatively new but I do know that your goldfish are coldwater and the betta and bala sharks are a tropical (warm) water fish. I don't think it's a great idea...IMO. Plus, your gold fish and bala sharks will get really huge provided the right care.

Hopefully someone will come along and give you more information than I can provide.
Do some research on the fish you already have that will help you be more informed and a small warning- you may not like some of the advice you get from others, but keep in mind they have the well being of your tank in mind.

I'll make this straight and to the point.
1) 50 gallon is not even close to big enough for the Balas who are prob already stunted. They need 150+ gallons in the very least.
2) Goldfish should be in coldwater tanks. In heated aquariums they can survive but probably won't live as long. I think this is something to do with metabolism in the higher heat environments.
3) Betta's would most likely attack fancy goldfish anyway. Anything with fancy fins or colors could potentially cause a betta to mistake that fish for another betta.

Generally it's a good rule to keep goldfish only with other goldfish. They are a carp which is a cold water fish and they are also very dirty...putting out alot of ammonia...

I don't know anything about bala sharks.....but bettas are a warm water fish and prefer temps in the high 70's low 80's.

Hope that bit of info helps you make a decision about your tank... :)
