Is 825 gallons big enough for a long-nosed gar? Don't worry, I haven't even set anything up yet and don't have the fish.

No, pond. So it's going to have to be a subspecies native to here. All I could find so far is Florida Spotted Longnoses.

Well that all depends. Are you getting a baby or an adult? It's actually best to keep young ones in smaller, heavily planted tanks. In big setups they can get spooked and break their backs/noses.

florida spotted longnose? where did you find this?

I am wondering that too...

Florida gar (Lepisosteus platyrhincus)

Spotted gar (Lepisosteus oculatus)

Longnose gar (Lepisosteus osseus)

all separate species...

Oh... I got it mixed up somehow... Anyways, this is where I found one online: http://www.petsolutions.com/Florida-Long-Nose-Gar+I66850+C79.aspx

I've never caught one before but will definably keep my eye out this summer and try different fishing places. I also remember there was another place where you could buy North American fish but I can't recall the website...

I knew about them being able to break their backs, but do you think if this pond was heavily planted around the edges, it would be safe? I don't have a large enough aquarium for it to grow up in, if I got a baby.

Dude No disrespect but I have seen wild Fla Gar and they are one big UGLY mother.why would you want one
