Big fish / Little fish - which to choose?

Yebbut...
With small fish you can have a big community.
A dynamic community.

A flock of hatchet fish skimming the surface with their aerodynamic bodies...
A huge school of Cardinals flashing brilliantly...
A group of Harlequin Rasboras playing in the water return...
A forest of plants with varying textures...
A herd of Cories frolicking in the forest...
Twiglike Farlowellas hanging from driftwood...
Scores of well fed Otos living happily and healthily...
Even Discus sailing serenely by...

All in one aquarium!

Who could ask for anything more?

Strangely enough, although I am in a 'small fish' period, I don't do communities. I do have one, which was the office tank until it was moved back home not long ago, and family pressure made me leave it mixed when I talked about trading fish back in. I prefer basically species tanks (plus cleaning crew) - a school of this, that, or the other, plus otos, shrimp, snails as needed.

I would like to try a smaller community tank but I have no where else to keep my big fish . If I bring to the LFS they will be sold and lost forever. I don't want to setup another tank. I have had most of the fish in this tank for nearly 2 years. I want change but I also want my big fish. :(

I guess I will just have to work with what I got. Thanks for the replies.
