Big tank water changes

buying the python kit wasnt worth it to me, but maybe thats just because i have no money... but anyway. i would have had to get the 50 foot one which cost like $75... so what i did is i got the faucet adapter from petsmart and then went to home depot and bought 4 10 foot sections of tubing and the metal connector pieces for it. $20 later i have my python and it works beautifully. so much more worth it than spending $75
 
One hose does it all this way, too. The only difference is that it takes 30 seconds to take the end of the hose that isn't in the tank (for me, its in the tub) and walk it to the sink. That, to me, is worth having to spend 50-75$, plus shipping, becuase I can't find them around here.
 
THANKS FOR THE DIY PYTHON IDEA!!!!!! All this time I have been doing water changes with a bucket..... no, really - I'm not kidding..... why are you all rolling around on the floor and clutching your bellies.... What are those sounds you are making.... are you LAUGHING at me?!?!?! :rant:

You may want to also add a section with a shot off valve so that you can adjust the temp, shut it off, then run the hose to your tank to fill. Less chance of a mess than if you pinched the hose closed.
 
My 70-foot Python (50-foot original, 20-foot addition when I added more tanks) has been in near-daily use since I got it ~ 18 years ago, maintaining 18-40 tanks. I consider it one of the cheapest and most useful tank accessories I've ever had. For life cycle cost, you cannot beat the use it has had.

More like comiserating. I do my water changes with a bucket, but then again I only have a 29 gal and a 10 gal (My roomates, but I've basically adopted it)
 
After you're done laughing ( i bought a python), can anyone tell me what i'm doing wrong? I can't get it to clean the gravel in my 50 gallon tank. The bottom of the tank is about 4" lower than the faucet. It siphons the water, but isn't strong enough to clean the gravel, or even suck up pleco poop. Its great for adding water though.
