Biggest koi i seen *pictures*

Well, I have somewhat of an attachment to snapping turtles. I found a freashly hatched one once when I was Pheasant hunting in a field. It was the end of September to boot. It must have been a late hatch. Anyway I kept it for a pet for about 8 months I grew from the size of a quarter to the size of a half dollar (they don't grow to fast). But then my Uncles brother who is a DNR reasercher for Iowa told me it was illegal to own them. So I had to take him to the creek and set him loose.

He also told me that they did a study on snapping turtles (In Iowa) and found that their diet only consists of 30% fish. They usually eat mollusk's or dead animals. However, he did say that the Alligator snapping turtle's diet did consist primarily of fish. He told me allot of things interesting about snapping turtles.

It wasn't highjacked, it just went from "Holy Carp" to "Snappy Meal"... (and how interesting are big carp anyways) This thread should have been in "ponds" where no one would have seen it because no one ever reads threads in that section... :dive2:

The zoo near me has a pond setup with two islands and a bridge going across the middle of it. They have ornamental koi in that pond, and you can feed them from the bridge. There are probably a few hundred in the pond and some look to be 4 to 5 feet long.

Koi are carp from Asia, that is all. I think they are one of the oldest kept fish species. They do breed them for certain color patterns. Some patterns are hard to get and can get pretty costly to find one.

I would've seen it..... I usually hit "show new posts" when looking at threads, I don't go room by room.... but for everyone to each his (or her) own I guess.... and hijacked or not.... this thread cracks me up.

You guys are too funny!! I just sat here, reading this thread laughing out loud to myself!! Just to add my experience with a snapper (in Michigan). A few years ago we were trying to launch our boat at a local lake and there was a snapper there, right in the middle of the boat launch, digging a hole (I would assume to lay eggs?) Well needless to say it would not move so my brother ended up trying to push it around with a wooden oar, that sucker snapped it in half!!! I could not believe it!! Oars are fairly thick solid wood. After that I decided I wasn't gonna mess with one of those guys!!! :thud:

When i visited the imperial gardens in japan there were huge koi it's been a long time but i'm sure there were some pushing 4 ft. I saw one at the store the other day that had only one eye- i wanted him but alas i have no pond.
