hey everyone,

making my first post... wanted to say hello, I have been searcing allot and I have gotten plenty of answers through this forum, thanks to everyone for posting a ton of helpfull information....

I just needed some opinions on what you all think about my progress....

I am on day 8 of my cycle... on day one I added 5lbs of live rock (cured) and 2 damsels...

Currently the damsels have been very active and look healthy... here are my test results they have been the same since day one...

Tank: biocube 8
Salinity 1.023
Ph 8.3
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 0

Through daily tests I have not seen any changes at all.... I'm still goin to wait another 3 or 4 weeks before I add anything else but does anyone think that I'm doin alright so far? Thanks in advance for the help...

Damsels are very hardy and will normally be active and healthy through the cycle, but you will probably not be able to add any other fish to that tank after the cycle without removing them as they are ultra territorial (some types moreso than others). Though I personally would not have any more than 1 or 2 fish in an 8gal anyhow. Odd that you have not seen any change in parameters. What type of test kits are you using?

I am using the API master test kit.... yea the damsels are very aggressive, I used 2 for a larger tank many years ago, but with that tank I had changes in ammonia and nitrite... I'm only 8 days into this one so I'm gonna just be patient and see if I get a spike in a week or so... thanks for the comments

You can wait and be safe.

I'll put money that you won't see any spike if this is day 8 already.

My tank cycled in 5 days.

Yeah from what I was told at the lfs where I bought the rock is that I might not see a spike... but your right I will hold on before adding anything, I wasn't planning on adding anything till about a month or two into it, better safe than sorry

The cured lr probably had enough established bacteria to cope with the small ammount of waste in the tank from the damsels. If you moved the lr from the lfs to your tank pretty quickly there was probably little to no die off aswell.

Matt.

Ya you may never see a spike. I had 8 ppm ammonia in my tank but I added 2 packs of bio-spira and it was gone in 2 days and hasnt changed since. 2 fish is your limit in an 8 gallon tank so I wouldnt add anything but a CUC and corals.
