I've recently run across this. It's a big fishbowl with a filter. I think they look beautiful. They are pricey.

I am wondering if anyone has one of these and how it compares to a regular fishtank, especially with regard to filtration.

I know that this post is older but I thought that i would put my two cents in anyways. If you haven't picked it up... don't. It is just an over priced bowl with basically an underground filter. You have to used the substrate that it comes with (if you want colored gravel forget it) because the surface of the substrate is very porous so that beneficial bacteria will adhere to the substrate and it will help break down the nitrogen cycle. Then the fact that the filter parts are hard to find you may end up only ordering on line. Petco has already put some of the BiOrbs on clearance only a few months that they started carrying them. Now they only have one model that they carry.

my petsmart only carried the small one and now they have all 3 plus the tower one,.. not sure if they shipped them from online warehouses for nosales or not but boy are they high priced,..

I thought that the lighting sounded interesting. I wonder if you can buy lighting like that anywhere else.
