black arrowana for sale should i get it

Do it for 19 bucks. They have a bad survival rate with the sac, but I am sure you could manage. I was looking at your tank pics, is it possible to put it in the 125 planted? That looks like a good setup for it. They are cool fish, I prefer them to the silvers.

Unless you have a massive tank, don't do it. I raised a black arowana once in a 200 gallon tank, and in retrospect, even that tank wasn't large enough for it. It grew to a size of over 3 feet, and was a constant swimmer. You also need to put into consideration that those fish can be jumpers as well. I had that fish for about 3 years, then one day, it jumped out of the tank... and that in itself is not an easy feat. It had to knock open the wooden hood, and knock off a brick to do it, but it did it. I found it the next morning, stiff as a board on my carpet. That loss turned me off from fish keeping for years.

They do get a lot bigger than the jardinis and asians, thats certainly true. However, I think Hans (judging by his pictures) has the resources to house it appropriately.

Richer, I feel your pain. I lost the first two arowanas I ever kept in the same manner. Its horrifying to see them lying on the floor like that, especially when it comes as a suprise. About 10 years ago I ended up putting a padlock on the tank ceiling to keep a group of them from getting out. Its fun to watch them jump in the wild though- it is really neat to see how high they can get for their size.

Typically slow groth patterns, but if you put it in something really big it will grow about as fast as a silver arowana. Can max out around 42 inches though, which is as big as they get for the species. Biggest I have seen in captivity was probably around 38.
