Black Devil Spike Snail

Those snails are new to me too, but very cool looking. Is your tank planted? I'd like to know how they do in a planted tank...do they just eat the dead vegetation or will they attack the growing leaves also?

Faunus ater.. not a Tylo.

Interesting! They look very very similar to some snails I have that I thought were tylo's...maybe they aren't after all, hmm..

I finally moved these guys out of the QT tank.

To my surprise, they are diggers..just like MTS's

They have not uprooted any plants in my tank, they bury themselves almost completely in the sand. Just leaving their point ends exposed. Evidently they learned how to hide from my cats! LOL

I have 3 similar-looking snails in my Turface-substrate tank. I only ever see them at night (not even a spike!) - sometimes before the lights go out if I'm lucky. They like to re-arrange the hide-outs I have in the tank for my Cories. :) They were sold to me as Long Nose snails... so might be the same thing, might not be. Neat looking critters, either way.

That's awesome that they eat detritus. They'd be great in a fry grow out tank.
