Could I keep one in with neons or would they be eaten? I found some sites that said they leave other fish alone and others that say they eat everything that fits in their mouths.

If you buy the black ghost when it it small, perhaps it will ignore the neons when it grows up. Thats a gamble. They will normally eat all small fish....

I saw one about 4-5 inches long. Would that be able to go after neons? How fast do they grow? If its slow I think I will get one. I have had the neons for almost a year and a half and Im pretty sure they only live for around 2-3 years.

I have a 5 inch Bkg in with glass catfish and tiger barbs. Never bothers them. I probably have had it for a four / five months. If you "feed it well" and give him a varied diet he may not ever bother another fish.

But remember to raise it when it is small with the neons so he/she wont think they are food...

OK thanks. My tank is almost done cycing and when its finished Ill get the BGK. I also plan on having some angels and small SA cichlids. I dont think any of them should bother him and I will get the smallest one I can find so the neons should work out. Thanks all.

Black Ghost Knives should be fine with just about any fish out there... Considering, the other tankmate is not aggressive, and you make sure it has a full belly all of the time... I hand fed mine Cubed Tubifex, but I would recommend Shrimp pellets

Remember this before you buy one...
1: BGK are not social
2: BGK like to hide all day
3: They sometimes have a tendancy to eat smaller, more vulnerable fish...
4: they grow very large
