Hi. I am thinking about getting a Black Ghost Knive. In my tank I have 6 guppies, 2 female bettas, and a white tipped shark. Is it okay to house a BGK with these guys? Thanks.

I don't think so Bettamom. It would probably be fine at 1st but as it grows it may eat your guppies. They aren't aggressive at all, they don't pick on, nip, or chase other fish...but at night they will ambush and eat any that can fit in thier mouth.

sorry, they're really cool fish though !

Kind of wierd questions but How big are their mouths? my guppies are pretty big

they will get to approximatel 20" Total Length. Your tank should be at least 6' long.

They have a very long lower jaw. The mouth is huge when they open it all the way.

I fed juveniles and full grown guppies to my BGN.

He killed an 8" Clown Loach. Did extensive damage to the gill membrane of a gymnogeophagus gymnogensys (that fish gets about 6-7" long--a good size gymno really). He killed and ate rather quickly a Microgeophagys ramirezi).

Like any fish aggression depends upon specimen and tankmates. As BGK's get older they tend to more aggression--especially at other bottom dwelling fish.

Unless you have at least a 125-Gallon don't get a BGK.

in short: NO.

they get to like 24" long, so a 200 gallon by itself would be sufficient, and just because the mouth is small now when its 4" long doesnt mean its gonig to be the same size when its 24" long. anyway, ive seen some BGKs that i would swear that they could fit a neon or small guppy in thier mouths when they were lamost 6" long.

No they don't need a 200 gallon tank, nor do they get 2 feet long in captivity...look it up , 90% of the websites will tell you different. They need a 55 gallon tank minimum. I know lots of people who have kept them to thier max life expectancy, in good health, in these conditions.

Seems alot of you are confusing the needs of a Clown Knife with a Black ghost, either that or just talking out of your *** :D
