Black Ghost

Be very odd to feel a shock from a BGK. Maybe impossible.

The BGK is a “slightly electric” fish. Giving off, at most, 3 milivolts of charge. The electrical sensory system is required for navigation and hunting since the fish is nearly blind. When in seach of food the BGK will move forward in a head down posture, or swim backward in a reverse motion in a head up posture. This enables the active sensory area located dorsally to cover as much area as possible. With over 1400 sensors distributed across the body the BGK is able to discern the slightest changes in the electrical field surrounding him. As opposed to the short bursts emitted by an Elephant Nose the BGK emits electrical waves. Providing a more constant awareness of its surroundings.

While the visual acuity renders the BGK nearly blind do not forget photosensitivity. They will avoid light.
i thought that they used it for detecting prey but not for stunning it like th electric eels and electric cats. my BKF is not that big, about 6" and if i have to adust his caves he runs and hides not defensive shocking going on.

sure you did not recieve a shock from a short in a heater or something? (not you sully) i know i've gotten some from some fountian pumps that were shocking but not the painful.

I have two knives a clown and blk. african the clown knife hides in a cave out of sight until feeding but the bgk is relatively always visible! I have hanging water vines that blocks off the light inthe back of the tank& bushes (moneywort, sagitaria grass, and some mini fern lookin plant i don't know!)((live of course))to lurk behind. always see him creepin around some where  about getting stung by it :rant2: :spam: :sim:

I've had two bgf, and the one I have now is about 7 in.. The other died during an ick treatment while using ick clear. I got a piece of split driftwood and covered it in java and willow moss. My ghost seems happy with it. He eats bloodworms, brine shrimp, tubifex worms, and live earthworms(pieces). For my other which was 4in. I got a piece of slate and leaned it against the glass. He was always viewable and out of the light. I got some spotlights(miracle laser) for night time, which he didn't seem to mind. My big one has moonlights on his tank, but he doesn't seem to dislike light as he's out and about pretty often. He hates when another fish gets in his pad, he'll even come from across the tank to chase them out. I watch for nipped fins, and he has never hurt any of my other fish. He has been with 10 neon tetras for over a month now and doesn't pay them any attention. He is well fed though.

sloshy , :thud: be carefull with tetra with it (bgk). i beleive it will eat them as i t gets larger mine is definetly semi- aggressive. although it never keeps them down (he acts bilemic) it does swallow 1'' minows and kills what the rest my fish don't eat! but thats my experiance! :thm: my bgk is about 5-6inches :thm:

I know the fish stores use hamster tubes. I don't think the tubes look very good though. Maybe he will adjust. I wish I could have one of these guys. But not for the size tank I'm getting.

Yeah. Keep plenty of hiding spots, and keep the lights dim. Also, there is a thing called a"ghost tube", which is a clear plastic tube that the ghost can "hide in" while you're watching it.
