Black gravel made water metallic?

I rinsed the gravel like the bag said, so much so that my hand went numb from the cold! and still the gravel made the little bit of water I had in there have a metallic sheen, I can see the current moving back and forth after moving the gravel around!

Should I empty all that water out and re fill? Is that normal for blackish gravel?

The bottom right is the kind I got. *grumbles* should have went with the blue/green.

I would just run the filter until everything is settled and/or filtered out. It's nothing that will harm the fish, it's just an aesthetic concern. Maybe toss some filter floss into the filter to get out the fine particles for the time being?

I have the same black gravel and had no problem after washing it before putting it in the tank. The tank is completely clear. Not sure why yours turned the water. I washed mine in just normal tap water with a pasta strainer and then put into the tank. Maybe try draining some of the water and try again? Sorry the gravel did that, maybe I got lucky?!

only problem i had with black gravel was that i dropped my mag sink into the tank and half my gravel stuck to it, took me hours to pick it all out so i could clean the glass. But i was using tahitian moon sand.

on another note though, if it is as ara said and its oil i would be complaining to the dealer i brought it from. I expect aquatic gravel to be oil free

Oh, it's not oil... I wish I knew where my good camera was so I could have gotten a pic last night. It seems to have settled. It looked like glitter in the water last night. I haven't fully filled the tank yet as Petsmart didn't have the Penguin 350 I wanted. Plenty of 100, 150, and 200's though.

It is fine particulate from your gravel. I have that Top Fin style in several tanks, and despite an intense rinsing of it, it did the same.

If you can, drain and refill a couple of times, and run extra floss in your filters.

I have also noticed that just the gravel vac tube, pushing into it, seems to break the gravel down. Not impressed with the Top Fin line of substrate.
