Which color of substrate shows cichlids best? What kind of gravel or sand should I use? It will be a Malawi tank.

I have both black sand and dark natural gravel. I prefer the dark brown gravel over the black sand.The black sand shows off the colors well but you can really see the debris.It gets dirty quite quickly.
The dark gravel shows the color well and i find it to be easier to clean then sand.

I'm sure you're right Valerie, unfortunately I bought white gravel a couple weeks ago. 
My husband wanted a really ugly blue gravel and I wanted black...somehow we compromised with white. Maybe I can convince him to go with black for our other tank!
