anyone know what this is!?!??

Is that a parrot fish? I had aparrot fish that got the black spots. I researched it and found that parrots can get black spots when they are stressed. I noticed that another parrot in the tank had been nipping at her which must have caused the stress. I moved her to a hospital tank and after sitting for a few weeks by herself All the black disappeared. After that I gave her to my mom who keeps her in a tank by herself and she is now the most spoiled fish you will ever see.

temp is 76. hes basically the one whos doin the nippin.. he picks on the other guy. when you come up to the tank he swims to the corner... hes not too friendly. =(

do a waterchange & gravel vac. i've noticed that parrots and other "red, orange, yellow, white" fish will show black blotches. due to stress and poor water quality. :dance2:

I have two parrots that show the same black patches - I have heard multiple theories -
I have not found a relation to the patches and water changes- but sometimes they are cleared up and other times they are about 10% black - they always seem happy and always eat.

What's the size of the parrot, and what size was it when you got it? Was it a tiny small black/striped critter? The undyed, natural parrots are like this when quite young--I have two. They were a little over an inch when I brought them home; 3 months later, they're @ 2.5 inches, and showing about half orange, half black most of the time. Mottled, like a paint horse, but slowly going orange. I would imagine that in the future they could show black spots or splotches for some reason.

hes a bout an inch and a half. not sure how big he was when i got him.. no too much bigger. he was full color when i got him.
