Hi all,

I'm interested in getting as much info as I can on creating a habitat for at least 2 Black Tip Reef Sharks. I understand that the can grow quite big and would need a tank to accomadate their full size.

What size tank would I need? What other marine life can I put in. I know its in the name but can you have a live reef tank with these Sharks?

I'm going to take as much time as I can and get all the info I need so that these black tips can have a long life.

Does anyone know of anyweb sites that have pics and specs on tanks that currently have these sharks????

Thanks for all your input in advance.

An active 6ft shark can not be kept adequatly in a home aquarium. Even less active smaller sharks like bamboo and epaullette need massive aquariums, arguably 1000 or more gallons.

If, and this is a big if, you have the space and budget, something like a 3,000-5,000 gallon circular tank should be adequate (barely). Most people who have kept and raised such sharks (public aquariums) will tell you anything below 50,000 gallons is inadequate. Just so you can get perspective on the issue...

Oh, and BTW, just so you know what your getting youself into, a skimmer large enough to handle a blacktip is going to cost $15,000+. Now factor in the tank, sand filters, pumps, lights, food, the shark itself, salt, sand, etc. and I think you can see where Im going with this.

Hi

Thanks for the reply :D

I already understand what the potential cost will be. Right now I'm just looking for information. I'm not to worried about the cost.
With that in mind. I'm still interested in the info.

Thanks in advance
