So...we have a 45 gallon tank and we are looking to restock it since we had a heater malfunction and "Boiled" the fish in the tank.

Anyway...we want something that gets fairly large but not so large that we can't put more than one in the tank. We also want a fish that has bright colors and has a personality. I've done a little research and I think Blood Parrots would be the perfect fit. I would like to know if anyone else has any experience with this fish. I would also like ot know if there are any other suggestions as to what to put in the tank...and also...about how much do Blood Parrots cost at your local fish store.

I have not experience with this fish, but you may get more help in the cichlid section. There's quite a few more people in there with experience with them :)
 
Undyed BP cost $6 for 1.5"+ size. Dyed fish is more expensive.

Some BP is so deformed that they can't eat or swim well. I have had many BPs. Some that have no problem eating and grow really fast. Some have major eating problem (can't suck the food in) that they stay small for full year.

If they don't have problem eating, they grow about 4-5"...and their growth slow down. Will take them about 3-4 yrs to get to full size, 7-8".

In that size tank, you can only have a BP and another cichlids that's about 5-6".
