Blood parrots will definately eat neons and they definately can't go in a community tank... ;)

Most lfs here sell the pink/red blood parrots for $55 CAD, they are about 3"...

That's a RIPOFF! Blood parrots aren't even a real fish. It's like they have an extra chromosome or something. They can't even reproduce 99% of the time.

The eating neon part may be true but they can go into a community tank as they like a 7.0 pH and aren't aggressive. At least the ones I've seen. My brother in law has 2 in his 90g community tank and they are great tank mates to all the fish. They don't bother anyone. He says he just put a white moon light and they were caught doing things illegal in 49 of 50 states...

I agree that price is high, LFS around here typically sell the smaller ones for 8.99 usd or the larger (probably around 1 year old) for $26.99 usd. And they most are most definetely real fish! Yes they may be hybrids that are not found in nature, but then again so are the 1000's of species of dogs and cats we as humans have domesticated and bred. They are still great fish to keep, very hardy and tons of personality.

Clarification: There are NOT 1000s of species of dogs and cats. There are 100s of breeds and are NOT hybrids. As a matter of fact, the domesticated dog has been known as Canis lupis familiaris since 1993, which means that it was created only from the Grey/Timber Wolf and the Domesticated Cat has been known as Felis silvestris catus, which means that it was created only from the "Wild-cat".

Awww! I used to think that way about them being hybrids, but I broke down one day at Petsmart and bought 2 since they were such a nice color red and $8.99 each..I have had them for about 6 months..lotsa eggs but no fry..I guess my male is infertile...but I still think that they are cool fish..here is ying and yang gurading their eggs..yang has the stripe on top and is the male..I only have these 2 and 2 clown loaches in a 55 gallon

Ok 1000's was a little much, but what else did you prove? I was simply saying even thou they might not be "Hybrids" we have changed and bred other pets to suit our taste and needs, going completely against nature! Which I have no problem with. And even if people consider them "hyrbids" Blood Parrots are bred from fish that orginated in nature --- They are believed to orginate from the Midas Cichlid (Cichlasoma citrinellum) and the Redhead Cichlid (Cichlasoma synspilum), or a green or gold Severum (Heros severus or Cichlasoma severum) with the Red Devil (Cichlasoma erythraeum). And my point was that just because man bred them doesnt make them not "real" they are here, common and make nice pets! So get a life! And leave the parrots alone, I have kept fish for the last 5-6 years and now have two parrots and enjoy them greatly
