I have a 6 foot tank with many live plants and a sunken ship. Toady I have purchased a blue lobster and know very little about it. I have been googling for over an hour now and have landed here as a last resort. Help? Can anyone help me please or advise of a useful url which they might know?

In my tank:

36 Neon Tetras
1 Golden Gourami
1 Plec
1 Cat Fish
1 Albino Shark
1 Silver Shark
3 Tiger Barbs
1 Pink Barb
1 Guppy
5 Mollies

umm ok..

I'm just curious why you would buy something you know nothing about? Shouldnt the research be done before you purchase?

You are going to have to remove the crayfish or say goodbye to your plants. They are great animals and beautiful for crayfish but they have huge appetites. They will eat any fish you have too if they can catch them... which they will eventually. The crayfish is best by itself with plants that u dont mind it munching on non stop until they are gone. Mine likes to snip plants into pieces for the fun of it it seemed. Some very fast fish or upper level fish, hatchets, danios, white clouds would be ok. Mine did catch and eat danios when they slept. They also prefer an unheated tank.

Intresting creature

I bought it because i have a massive tank and wanted to spice my tank up. The links are very helpfull, thank you. I believe it has already attacked a tiger barb as it is now missing its eye. I have quaranteened the tiger barb in a cage which is very small as it was used for breeding my guppies. I hope it survives as they are very lively fish and enjoying to watch. The lobster is also picking up a lot of the pepples and bringing them into my hollow skull where he has been the most in the 4 hours i have had it.

yea its going to kill off the fish. i even had one take a chunk out of the arowana that was almost a foot long, a few months later and growing about 30% bigger the fish ate the sucker. and then the crayfish will start shredding your plants too.

theres different blue crayfish, theres blue morphs of the common crays and a few other native species. then theres the tropical ones, the prawn and theres the australian ones that can get lobster sized. if you want something like that look into shrimps theres a few that looks pretty nice and will be plant safe. but they will get picked off by the fish unless they hide really well.

My crayfish has shed its skin; I have had it now for just less than 2 days. I have removed the shell from the tank and it is hiding in my hollow skull. It is very difficult to see what he looks like as he has not come out yet and I don’t want to disturb him. Any help on this matter would be appreciated?

Put hte shell back in -he'll eat it for the nutrients in it to build his new one. He'll be hiding for a few days while his new shell hardens, but then he'll be good...

I have now replaced the shell back into the water. The temperature is at 79F/26C with aquarium light on. Do you think this may be too warm for the crayfish?

They are pretty hardy but they prefer a lower temp. He will take 79 degrees for a long time but I wouldn't keep a heater set at that. YES keep the shell in with him. He needs to reinjest the calcium. I fed mine sinking shrimp pellets, algae wafers, dead fish, vegetables, everything.
