Blue pearl or orange shrimps?

So they're not cheap! Pretty cool looking though. Apparently they come in blue too. So maybe orange Neos and blue Caridina Serrata...the orange Neos seem much more orange.

Now, some questions about Caridina Serrata (Tuepfel), do they breed true, can they successfully reproduce in freshwater, and do they have a larval stage?

Same questions for any other Caridina that comes in blue or orange. Any other suggestions?

Looks like the blue variety is called "blue aura".

Caridina Serrata (Tuepfel) var. blue

Some or most say they breed true. Can anyone confirm or deny?

Caridina Serrata is actually a hybrid from my understanding. I would have to do some researching but being that this is fairly new, I would fathom a guess to say that the lines are not 100% stable so they won't breed true. Don't quote me on this though. It usually takes a few years for hybrid lines to become stable.

Agreed that the blue tigers look wonderful, but I've heard they don't breed true, and I couldn't bring myself to cull the misfits.

Then offer them here just for the cost of shipping or maybe ask 25 cents a piece or something to help offset food costs. There are lots of people who would love to have cheap shrimp just to have some shrimp in their tank and not interested in breeding or breeding true.

Caridina serrata shrimp are in fact a species in their own right; I do not think they are hybrids. Both the blue tupfel and blue aura breed true.

Yep...just looked it up. Like I said...don't quote me on it. ;)

The Tuepfel shrimp are the hybrids but the lines are good.

Yes the Tupfel shrimp are, my apologies, but being as the blue tupfel is a selectively bred colour morph of the tupfel shrimp I dismissed it.

I think I've decided to start with the oranges (Neocaridina heteropoda var. orange). Maybe over time I can sell enough of them to afford some Blue Auras (Caridina Serrata {Tuepfel} var. blue). Those little guys are expensive!

Good Choice the Blue pearl are highly variable meaning some look soso and a lot of them look like well not to good . None of them compare to Blue Rili aka Blue Velvet . Tigers don't breed with Neocardina but can breed with CRS the latest Version being Ti Bee's . Aura Blue is another not so stable form that comes from the same breeding group as Tangerine Tigers . I have seen Aura Blue in groups of Tangerine Tigers . It is highly touted and hyped but in person it is kind of like the tangerines a subdued color rather than a striking exciting one . There is also a high grade Blue Rili that tops the other blue types but it is rare and kind of expensive . And don't forget the clear Blue version of Blue Bolt ! And Blue bolt itself :) For you next Blue tank
