Hi there,

Putting a tank together and after much deliberation, I've called off getting a shoal of danios in favour of something slightly larger. After some research, blue rams seem perfect... peaceful and all that... but Kuhlis suuure are wormlike!

That said, does anyone have experience with the compatibility between these two? If it's a nay, I'd rather keep the Kuhlis; anyone have any suggestions to replace the Rams?

That should be fine. The rams should leave them alone. I would recommend getting a pair of rams, or a group and allow them to pair naturally if you have a large enough tank.

It's a 100L. There are a couple pieces of deco to keep the Kuhlis happy, and I'm planting it and making sure it's well-established before EITHER of these species are added.

kuhlis and rams are perfectly fine together. i have them and the rams haven't paid attention to them one bit. just make sure you have somewhere for yor kuhlis to hide. not because they need to hide from the rams but because they like to borrow in loose substrate and hide under plants and stuff. they're kinda nocturnal but will come out during the day, especially when you have a bunch of them (4 or more)

I plan on 9 Kuhlis in Fluorite. :)

i have flourite and i don't think that it's quit loose enough for them to borrow the way they want. they tend to hang around the roots of my plants and under some fissedents that i have sittin on the bottom of my tank

My LFS reps told me there wouldn't be a problem with them burrowing... I remained a touch worried about that...
One of my deco pieces has a large number of nooks and crannies that I think will keep them extremely happy.

you could even make a little indent in your substate under your decoration, that would give them somewhere to hide. i've never seen them dig in the flourite though. my lfs has them in a barebottom tank with a few decorations for them to hide under. i'm sure they'll be fine

never just take your lfs's word for anything. gather a bunch of research from your favorite forum

The deco piece I'm talking about is a really nice-looking castle, and it's entirely hollowed; they can actually go right up in the parapets. :) I look forward to witnessing this!

EDIT: You mean like this one? :D
