I currently have one angelfish and 9 rasboras in my 46 gallon aquarium, and became interested in blue tetras due to their color which would contrast with the current fishies. :) But then I did some research and saw they might be fin nippers - would they pose a threat to an angelfish? If it's probably okay, how many should I get? :)

Thanks!

I have to admit I'm not familiar with the blue tetras. I've got diamond tetras in my tank, which are doing great with the Angelfish that I have, but I realize that does not necessarily mean a blue tetra would do the same.

Having said that, the website is listing guppies and mollies as good tank-mates, which makes me think maybe they'd do OK with an angel since guppies have flowing fins too. But I also take a lot of what I read from fish sites with a grain of salt since there is a lot of false information out there.

Hopefully someone here will have had experience with this particular tetra.

If they are compatible, I know tetras do best in groups of 6 or more. My diamonds are in a group of 8 and doing very well. They are schooling fish, so the more the merrier, assuming you have room. :)

I'm going to be ordering some in in a couple weeks for my planted with angelfish, I was told they would be fine... I've watched them in the LFS I work at and they don't seem to nip anything, they're in with long fin white clouds, some tiger shrimp and I think either CPD or pygmy rasboras (can't remember lol)

Hmm, well I'm hoping someone else might confirm that they're alright, I would totally love to get them.

If anyone has any other suggestions of fish that might pop along my rasboras & angel, let me know. Blue fish seem the best bet but I'm open to anything. :)

with angels, you have to consider size of the tank mates.

if the adult size is near 2 " then it may be safe.
also most tetras will need to be in a school/shoal. keep that in mind also when adding these.
tank size is important as tetras usually require swimming room.

Yeah, I realize I need a school of these guys, I'm wondering how many you guys think I could push along with the 9 rasboras & angelfish in my 46 gal aquarium (4ft long). It'd be cool to get cories too but I doubt I have room for them if I get another school of tetras.

Also, Star_Rider, right now I'm more concerned about the blue tetras nipping the angelfish, not the angel eating the tetras, though I need to think about that too... lol.

I have a group of 10 of these in my community tank, and they do not bother any of the tenants. I have no angels, but they are in with rasbora hets, von rios tetras, half beaks and more. I have never seen them chasing any of the fish other than their own kind. They range in size from 1-2", and I've had them for about 4 months. Good luck.

from what I have read about these tetras they should be ok.. but you should still keep an eye on the angels.
anything under 2" with a narrow body may be subject to snacks for angels.
they will try and eat anything they think they can fit in their mouths

Also keep in mind that one angel might be fine with the tetras, while another would eat them. I have neons with my angel, most people would advise against this, I also added the neons once the angel was pretty large, again something people advise against doing.
