Hey all. I finally have what appear to be a male and female bolivian ram in a 55 gallon corner aquarium. The male seems to have the female hiding behind the heater. There is some rockwork, live plants, and a small pot for them to breed in. Should I add more plants and hiding places so he doesn't beat her up? Do they usually beat each other up? any help would be greatly appreciated.

ok, thank you....will work on more hiding spots for them. Could I be wrong and have 2 males? Do they tend to fight?

They will "test" each other to see if the other is a worthy mate if they are male and female. Males will establish a pecking order by challenging each other. They are not equipped to do to much damage. Just make sure they have plenty of space to call their own and that they both are getting to eat.

thank you. I will make sure they get enough to eat and have already added a few more hiding places. They don't have much competition for food. They have 5 checkerboard barbs, 5 corydoras aneus and 2 longfin blue danios as tank mates. I will be adding some more danios soon and will call the tank complete. thank you again for the advice.

If I were you I'd add more rams! Not sure how big the blue danios get but IMO you are not overstocked.

you aren't over stocked at all. If they are not playing nice with one another, chances are you have two males, so pick yourself up a few more rams, and see if that calms them down some.

I will try to score a few more rams. just need to wait for the paycheck and hope the place I got them has more. :) thank you for all your kind advice.

still have one hiding in the corner and the other one running the tank. haven't had time to get to the local shop that had some....have had to work alot. Would 2 females do the same ? Keep one in the corner?
