books for a newbie

^ I tend to agree.

Also agree the Dummy Guide book is pretty poor and a waste of money and I shouldn't have bought it but before I set my tank up I bought pretty much everything I could find.

Gina Sandford's book is concise and accurate, imo. But there's nothing there you wouldn't get for free online.

Now, I am just on the way out the door to pick up both volumes of this which was on order for me at the LFS http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/09...mp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=0964505800

Now there's pictures for you - stunning.

I totally agree with Mgamer, I'm new to aquariums but not to fish. I bought some books....they were all so basic that I could find about 5x's as much info 5x's as fast with one key word on google....crazy! Now my books sit on my coffee table for...you guessed it....the pretty pictures. LOL

Side note: Dr Axelrod's Mini-Atlas of Freshwater Aquarium Fishes has been a great tool in seeing the various kinds of fish available. However even with over 1800 photos of fish, it doesn't show em all. Oh, and when I see one I like...I go research the heck out of it on the internet and ask in this room cuz the book only gives you so much info (and don't completely trust the book)!

Welcome!!
