bottomfeeders

How big of a tank? What kind and how many fish do you have in there? What do you mean by 'clean' the tank? Eat leftover food? Algae? More info plz...:)

i have a 20g with 8 neons and 4 zebra danios and i would like a fish to help clean up the excess food. thanks!

I'd go with a couple cory catfish. They are extremely peaceful and spend almost their entire time patrolling the bottom for excess food. They are a lot of fun to watch since they will play with each other or lie in a little pack together.

also, just a side note... You may be feeding too much if a lot of excess food hits the bottom of the tank, and your fish aren't eating it first. Also, you will still need to do regular gravel vacs. to get up the fish waste. Just a tip, in case you didn't already know this :) Corys will be a great choice, just make sure to get the same type, I have a couple different kinds of schools in a large tank and they completely ignore each other!!

Yah, if you have food hitting the bottom, you are feeding too much. Instead of getting fish to eat it, just feed less. That said, cories are a great addition to most tanks, IMO. However, they must be fed also. They shouldn't really be kept to just "clean" things. They are not scavengers and must be fed specifically with foods suitable to them (algae wafers, shrimp pellets, bloodworms, fresh veggies, etc.)

Platies aren't technically bottomfeeders, but they do a pretty good job scavenging the bottom of the tank for a few leftover scraps. Again, they won't help you if you're grossly overfeeding, but will help if a few flakes hit bottom.

One more addendum: If it's a planted tank, consider a snail or snails. Many varieties do a wonderful job of cleaning up dead plant matter nd they add a change of pace to a fish tank. Some are more interesting to watch than your fish. ;)
