brakish water

I am converting one of my tanks to brackish water to breed labidochromis caeruleus (Electric Yellow Labs).I have taken a 20long removed existing fish, changed 20% water, changed to a larger filter, and added cichlid rift lake salt according to directions. I dissolved salt before adding to tank.

How do I maintain proper salt levels?.What else do I need to be concerned about?

Rift lake salt is not marine salt that will convert your tank to a brackish environment. Besides, labs are quite easy to breed and require no particular effort to breed. I think you'll only waste time and money to dissolve those mineral salts. Yes, they are mineral salts and are not compulsory for use.

There is a topic before about African cichlids being brackish or not. My answer is that these are not brackish water. The water there is hard and alkaline but it is nowhere near to brackish conditions as the salinity level is not too high to make it brackish.

Yeah, that's not a brackish tank, those "salts" just buffer the water to better replicate the Africans environment with hardness, alkalinity, etc. You don't need to worry about salinity or anything like that. As Lupin said, it's not tough at all to get labs to breed, you really don't need the mineral salts.
