Hello,
Finally a post that isn't problem related! Hooray!

Recently I set up my 55g and it's got sand as the substrate

Currently my 4 CL's (2-5 inches) are in a tank with gravel as substrate and I'm planning to move them into the 55g until my 125g is ready to go (needs new silicon...and I'm in canada so I kind of have to wait for the snow to leave before I can test it and see if she's gonna blow lol)

At the moment there is only the sand and a small amount of water in the 55g tank

I just added the water last night to help the sand settle and to get out most of the air pockets under the sand

I'm wondering now what I should do in terms of getting the tank ready for the clowns?

I know I need to use some of their current tank water...but how much (i'm not 100% sure on)

Also if I have to use say 75% of their current tank water (in a 29g tank)
How would I go about putting the old tank water into the new tank (and yes I know to put it in a bucket etc lol)

But what I mean is

The 55g water is too low at the moment and it's kind of just sitting stagnant water...Should i fill up the remainder of the 55g with new fresh clean de-chlor'd water? Then remove the fresh water as I'm doing my WC in the current CL tank and add that to the 55g? (removing the fresh water from the 55g to add the old CL tank water)

I'm worried if I don't keep the water circulating that it might cause problems with the water...so for the time being should I just fill it up with fresh water?

Otherwise everything else is good to go

Sand is lovely, Got 2 nice pieces of driftwood I will begin cleaning tonight after the WC regiment

I can't wait ^_^

Like a kid on christmas eve lol

Edit: Wow I don't know why I put this in the newbie forum -_- it's 9:30am and I'm not fully awake yet *sigh* sorry to whichever mod has to move this

I can only answer one question posted above, You don't really need Old tank water as it carries 0 to no "benefecial bacteria" at all what you need is the Filter media from your old tank and you're ready to go just keep an eye on the Toxic Levels Just to be sure it Automatically Cycled the tank to Avoid any Casualties of Fish.

So I can fill this bad boy up 100% with new tank water and just use the current CL tank carbon filter in the 55g?

Easier for me .... much easier

and the filters are the exact same size and make too...so bonus for the clown's

Yep, Just remember to Add Dechlor so the Benefecial Bacteria won't die off with the new tank water. and i would over filter tanks any day Good luck!

Thanks very much for the quick response

and for making my job easier ^_^

Now I just need to figure out the stocking for my other tanks lol

New thread here I come!

You're Welcome! im always glad to help; Good Luck with the Tank!

Agreed....I'd start with brand new water as well. Just seed your new setup with something from an existing tank (filter floss, substrate, etc.) and that bacteria will start to spread as long as they have an ammonia source to feed off of.

Yup.

Once the water settles and the temperature is steady etc just move the fish and existing filter in together. Run BOTH filters in the new tank for a few weeks. Then you will have 2 cycled filters and you can move one back to the old tank and restock that with new fish.

The water doesn't matter, most of the tanks cycle is in the filter, so you can actually move it around with the fish.
