Breed Ghost Shrimps lolz

i was just wondering this
if i buy like a few shrimps from the store
then i throw then in an empty tank
wouldnt they mate?
how fast do the eggs hatch too?
 
since they are see through, you can see the femal when she caties eggs on the bottom of her tail.the fry are quit difficult to raise
 
if its empty, then its easy, jsut give them cory tablets and youre good to go. maybe some moss for the babies to hide.
if ghost shrimps are the minami numa ebi then sudden change in water level will trigger them to mate. i forgot why but, something to do with them living in rivers......
 
Ghost shrimp use the "primitive" method of reproduction. The thousands of fry are microscopic free floating plankton for several weeks. You'll need green water with single celled algae to feed them, and a filter system that doesn't trap or smash them.
 
I had about 6 ghost shrimp in my tank when I noticed I had a pregnant female. Well I thought the eggs never hatched cause I kept seeing this female full of green eggs, but now yesterday I noticed that I have 2 new little shrimps!!! So the one with eggs must be a different one. I think as long as you have some hiding spots for them when they molt you should be good to go. Mine seem to really like the java moss and ferns, plus caves as hiding spots. Umm, why wouldn't you use a filter? Why is a shrimp any different than a fish? Just imagine that if your shrimp do end up breeding there will be more and more and more.........eventually your water will become WAY too polluted, unless you are going to do CONSTANT water changes. Just because ghost shrimp are tiny doesn't mean they are any less work to own or that they don't produce waste that needs somewhere to go. Not to mention that most filters are the building blocks of beneficial bacteria. Or are you not going to cycle the tank before you add your shrimp either? :duh:

Do you think a small undergravel filter would be too strong for the babies? I have one in my small snail tank. It is doing just fine.
