I have one male balloon molly in my community tank. There is a little salt. I would like to add females and have some snacks for my other fish and hopefully a few surviving babies but I have heard of so many problems with the mothers giving birth since balloons are actually "genetic defects" Alot of people get the females dying during birth or all stillborns, ect. from what I've heard. Have any of you guys had succsessful births or heard of any because they are just so cute!, but I wouldn't want to have females die just to get babies. Thanks ;)

My balloon bellied mollies are the most hardy fish I have bred.
My guppies tend to have more problems with dying after birth, getting diseases and such matters. Although, guppy fry are a little easier to raise and maintain than the mollies (for me), but if you are planning on just raising the babies for food then that's not going to be a problem.

I agree, go for it. Just make sure you are prepared and have done research on breeding and raising fry.

Good Luck! =]
