Breeding Black Moscows

After reading an article in TFH I'm getting an urge to breed these moscows. I'm thinking that if I use a 5 gallon for the trio (with daily water changes) and give the fry a 10 gallon so they'll grow quicker I may be set. Thanks!
Fry will grow quicker in a 1 qt container

Usually because in a smaller container, it is easier for such tiny fish to find food than in a big tank. With guppies, however, they usually just hang out at the surface anyways and I have found that a larger tank works fine, especially for large amounts of fry. This also allows you to have a filter and heater which keeps the water in better shape for optimal growth.

Small containers make intensive culture much easier. This time of year heat isn't an issue, and if you put 30 or 40 newborn fry into a 1 qt container it's easy to overfeed heavily and then change enough water enough times a day so that the overfeeding and lack of filtration aren't problems. That's the trick to rapidly raising fry and there really is no shortcut. Fwiw I just did a water change on a tank containing two pair of Blue Gularis Killies that were born on 4/28/12, and raised in the manner I describe until they were about 1.5", which was about a month. The fish are now 3.5" and the change triggered both pairs to spawn for the first time. The fish max out around 5" which should be by Xmas. Most small fish, such as Tetras, Rasboras, and Livebearers we keep should reach their full adult size in their first year.

If I did put the trio in a 10 gallon, would it be better to just have the filter and heater or should I add plants to encourage breeding?

Plants don't encourage Guppies to breed. They don't need encouragement! But plants do give the babies a place to hide so their parents don't eat them.

So they can be kept in a bare aquarium with nothing else? Sorry for the questions, but thanks!

I would add PVC or a plant. When fish don't have anything to hide by they can get stressed.
