Breeding Convicts

Sounds like they have picked thier spawning area, if the female hangs inside the cave while the male guards it. Could already be eggs in it, or they could be getting ready to spawn. I have almost 2 week old FireMouth fry in my 20g, and my FireMouths are already doing the spawning dance. So once you get the water parameters just right your fish will spawn all the time especially with convicts since they are the rabbit of the cichlid world. They spawn like crazy. My pair of Cons is getting around the size to start spawning soon. They have taken over the cave in the tank. I'll be getting a huge 100g or larger for the rest of the fish in my 29g tank with the cons.
 
Well I've been watching and as much as it seems like they're about to spawn, no eggs. I'll wait another week or so and see how it goes and then maybe if nothing happens I'll think about getting a second female, or maybe even removing my male and putting in a male you hasn't paired up before (if this is the problem). But most likely I'll go with a female.

So is the temp of my tank ok?
 
Thats the temperature mine is! You could go with another female but your're going to want to have a second tank to put the loser in.
 
GUESS WHAT!!! EGGS!! LOTS OF EGGS!!

Last night i fed them, turned their light off and slept at a friends house. I come home tonight and there are eggs! Maybe she was just shy lol.

She is protecting her eggs like her life depends on it, even from the male! Does the female automatically know to let the male fertilize the eggs?

So far so good, except for when i went to feed them today and the male came up to the top to snack on my hand!
 
Gotta love convicts. The instructions on how to breed should say "just add water"
 
I'm so excited. They should hatch by tomorrow! i can see the little eyes in the eggs! Its great after a year of seeing her lay eggs and nothing happen to finally have her first batch come to life!
