i ve never bred anyfish before but i concider myself an experianced aquarist i belive there isnt a fish that i cant keep. i plan on getting some tank raised dwarf pikes and i want to breed them need help on tank set up,water chemestry, and as much info as possable

I'm just humming and hahhing about geting some dwarf pikes I've seen at the moment. Kept apistogramma?, (or anyother S American cichlids) - well there you go, almost the same, but a little bit bigger.
What are you keeping at the moment? Hows your local water chemistry?

Dwarf pikes are NOT the easiest fish to begin your breeding with. Unlike the Apistogramma species, most can not be bred in a 10 gal (38L) tank. They need lots of room. Tanks raised could mean that you are getting C.regani that I first bred a few years ago (1997). They are the easiest of the dwarf pikes to work with BUT are really not 'dwarf' as they grow larger than 4". I do have a breeding article about the Regani on my site.

well i have a 40 gal long and i ve been keeping rams i have 2 males and 4 females. 2 of them have paired up and laid eggs i jsut leave them be and they never hatch my ph is about 7.0. i wanna get rid of them and get the pikes. i was thinking about getting a r/o unit to lower my ph or do i need it?i live in detroit and we have good tap water a little on the hard side though. i have exallent filtration. i have a magnum 350 with bio wheels ugf 2 power heads and a lifeguard fluidized sand filter running inline with my magnum with out the sand filter my ph is 7.5

A 40 long would be excellent! As you may have read, I did mine in a 20 long but I thought it was a little small still it worked. Which species are they? Have you considered going to the OCA Extravaganza Nov. 21, 22, 23? I would try with your regular water at first and then you can adjust if necessary. Do you vist Delores at Wet Thumb? She bred many of my offspring and could tell you about her water conditions if you have Regani. And YES, the Rams would have to go!
