Breeding my bettas

I would definatly advise against it. It is a lot of work and dedication. I have tried to in the past and have worked with others in the past breeding bettas. The hard part isn't getting the fish to breed (even though that in itself is a whole seperate story), it's all the stuff after they breed.

Betta fry are extremely fragile, even a cold gust of wind can kill them all. You definately need a dedicated room, if not your whole basement to keep the fish in. Then you have to decide on what kind of containers you want to keep them in, and how you plan to keep them clean. Then you have to actually clean the individual containers, (could be up to 500 seperate containers). After all that, you have to keep in mind cost for 500 bettas (food, heat, water, meds, etc). Then you have to decide what you want to do with all the babies. LFS won't take them and if they do they won't do so until they reach about 1.5 inches, and that could take a while.

My friend owns a small fish store (mainly featuring bettas and discus) and after a while of trying to breed his own, he buys them now.

Again I advise you NOT to do it, unless you are prepared to be extremely dedicated to them. If you want to do it just to see if you can do it, (meaning you don't care about the babies) then I guess go ahead. However you do risk the lives of your bettas everytime they breed (not just from each other, but from possible contaminations during the healing process).
