I know, I know, we don't want to start up the old Blood Parrot Freak Fish Messing with Nature thread again but I just wanted to share the course of events yesterday. I have three Blood Parrots about 5-6 " in size in my 72 gallon tank. In the last few weeks I notices two of the Parrots "fooling around". Yesterday the female got down to business and started laying eggs while the male went through the motions of fertilizing them. I know that the possibility of getting any fry would be nil, but it is still quite an interesting process to watch. After about 45 min, both parents stayed close, fanning the eggs and chasing away any curious (hungry) fish. Unfortunately both of my clown loaches found the eggs and within 10 minutes had decemated the nest and eggs. They were relentless despite the attacks of the parrots. I wish I had a video camera as the whole process was quite fascinating. Anyway, I am now inspired to get some other Cichlids and try breeding them. Just wanted to share.
