It has happened accidentally a few times but never intentional. I know they like a big 75% WC with slightly cooler water preferably in November (short days, rainy season). The male will want a good spot for the eggs, driftwood or PVC works. They sell special caves too. Research says they like soft slightly acidic water but mine isn't. They are really pretty easy to breed.

Having breeding caves will definitely give a better chance at breeding them.

They bred fine for me W/O me trying or helping. Yes, they must have a cave to breed in. I used a short, black PVC pipe, which they used for a home anyway. The male took very good care of the eggs and fry.

I'd just wipe down the tank sides & go with a tube or wood cave or 2...& see what happens. A big water change may help get them in the mood.
