Does anyone have any tricks to get zebra fish breed more consistently. They are breeding but not always when I drop the trays in the tank (a glass rectangular container with about one inch walls and a plastic mesh placed on top with plants stuck in it) any tips would be great.

well my zebra fish 1st started spwaning when i accidently droped to much food, maybe the surplus of food made them feel like they had enough food to care for young. Also more water changed, and play with the tempeture. Fish only mate during the spring in nataure. so try and imatate the tempeture change that occurs when spring arives. Cool the tank just a bit then add warm water during the water changes. Dont qoute me on anything, this isnt from research or fact. These are just things that i try now and then and seem to have some effect, observations

feed them a good variety of foods like flake, tubefex, "betta flakes", spirulina flakes... and do lots of water changes. You might even feed them several times a day, just smaller amounts.

Keep the tank warm say, 77-80 and when you want to induce them to spawn change 30-40% of the water with cool enough water to drop the temperature 2-3 degrees.

I honestly found I couldn't stop them from spawning.

I had two females and a male and between the two of them it was about once a week. I was trying to get the tetras I had to spawn so was useing them as barometer to let me know if I was at least close. once I had them going like clockwork I removed them so I could deal with the tetras.

I didn't have a breeding tank that I changed though I just lightly gravel vacced the babies out of the tank right at the time they hatched.

yeah my zebra fish are starting to pawn weekly as well since im doign water changes every 3-4 days. One female already had her eggs and i see anothere female is already poregnat again. do u have long finned zebra or short finned? i both and one hybrid

i tryed those things and they gave me good behivor (clusting over tray) but no eggs  any more tips
