Fantail & Oranda able to reproduce together??

This may sound silly, but can two different types of goldfish reproduce with each other?? Anyone have any cross breeds if it is possible?? I only ask because ive never heard of it, and was wondering because I have three different types in my tank.

Shawna, yes they will breed. Imagine goldfish are like dogs, dogs will mate with any other breed of dog possible. That why we have mutts. Goldfish will do the same but alot of times, this is not desirable. Most breeders and keepers prefer goldfish to be pure. But if you want to get a certain type of fish from your pairing, it will take time. This is something that does not happen over night.
Also from what I can recall from breeding goldfish, they will breed once they have reached 6 inches. I can be wrong on this, so do not quote me as gossiple. But I believe you need the room for them to breed. I like breeding them in small ponds. Every time I have breed them, I have gotten bronze fish.

oh im not LOOKING to breed em, mabey someday, just wondering if I should ever have to be on the lookout for offspring in the mix. :p:

I think that you have to make some kind of effort to get goldfish to breed. I don't think that they will just readily breed under all tank conditions like guppies.

If u do, do that cross breeding with fish can be kinda wierd.... like ur a bubble eyed goldfish and a brainy 1 (the ones with the weird heads) it might ture out to be a mix of both.
