Hi Friends !

I hope all is well !

Just wanted to clarify a few doubts regarding the Brichardi behaviour - Kindly guide me...

My 2" Brichardis (I have 8 of them in my fronts tank) have started to pair-off and are picking up territories... They harassed my corys endlessly and so I removed the corys and sold them off - Was it because the corys are of a similar color and size and they took them as a threat ?

I'm asking this because the brichardis seem to be happy with the frontosas and they dont harm them atall... infact its the fronts who get to food first and sometimes chase away the brichardis...

I was just thinking that because of my aquascape, things might work out for me and maybe the fronts and the brichardis can live happily together ? I have a LOT of caves (more than the number of fish in the tank and now a huge rockpile on a side) - Every fish seems to have a spot of their own and they really seem getting along well...

I'm just asking this because I thought I'll be able to keep the fronts for a few more days / months (I really dont want to give the away now)

Or will things change when the brichardis have babies ? Will they start harrasing my fronts when they start to breed ? As its commonly said on the internet- Can they REALLY kill my fronts who are much bigger than them ? My brichs are about 2" and the largest front is about 5" and the smallest front is about 3" - Can they really kill my fronts ?

Any ideas from past brichardi keeping experiences ? Kindly guide me...

It will be a great help if you can share your experiences and kindly guide me here...
Thanks a lot !
Regards
Kush

When i had my fronts and brichardi's together they were fine in my 120gal even when the brichadri's were breeding and guarding fry..

I have seen as well a brichardi back down my largest front when ever he got to close to the nest site..

All in all your fronts will learn to keep there distance..

Hi there !

Thanks a lot for caring and for the kind reply ! So can I keep the fronts for just a few days more or maybe a few months ? Wow that will be great if its possible... So will atleast some brichardi babies survive in the tank or will fronts finish them ?

Also I have built a big rock pile at one end of my tank and the brichs love to swim thru the gaps and caves - is there a danger that the fronts might dig-up the rock bases and cause a disaster ?

Kindly guide me...
Thanks a lot for the help and for the encouragment (as always :) )

Take a photo of that rock pile so i can see what you are talking about. Yes there is always a chance that a rock pile may fall do to cichlid digging.. just be careful how high you stack the rocks..

If this is the same tank that we have been talking about for the last few months i would say get rid of a couple of fronts and keep everything else should be fine..

Once babies are born all bets are off...it depends on the individual personalities but if those Fronts even go near the babies they'll be harassed. It may not result in death but it will be very stressful to the fronts. In a larger tank you could get away with the mix but in this size tank I wouldn't. If you could get a hold of something as small as 30 gallons you could quick setup a breeding/fry tank for the brichardis.

Thanks a lot for the reply and for the help... I'm trying to get another tank, but I'm not sure if I'll have the money and space for it... anyways, I guess I'll wait for some time and if it requires, I'll remove the fronts and keep it as a Brchardi tank...

Thanks anyways...
