I bought a container of Omega One Freeze Dried Brine Shimp last week, and I was wondering what everyone thought the best method of feeding with them was. The cubes are obviously too big to just drop one in, so I slice them into smaller pieces. After that, do you think it's best to:

1) Crumble the piece on top of the water
2) Soften it up in a cup of tank water first, then dump it in
3) Just toss the little cube in

Just wondering how other people do it. I tend to crumble because it achieves the goal of breaking the cube apart without having to wait for it to "thaw" in a cup of water.

Your method is fine. There’s lots of different ways. It just comes down to personal preference.

I have a little plastic dish I thaw mine in. I've defrosted a cube alone (floating plastic cup in hot water) and saw all the dank red liquid that resulted. It’s probably a drop in the bucket, but I don’t want that in my tank. I rinse my thawed frozen food through a brine shrimp net, then set it in just enough clean dechlorinated water to make a slurry and suck it up in an eyedropper and feed it a little at a time. I also have a 15” long spigot (rigid tube diameter for air tubing) that I suction more up with and then blow it gently right into the top layer of gravel for my corys. They practically attack the tube waiting for the stuff to come out the end.

I thaw mine is a cup of tank water until they break up and then put in the tank with a turkey baster.

You are talking the freeze - DRIED cubes right, not the frozen cubes? I cut the cube in half then press it against the glass of the tank until it sticks. My Bosemanii and Platy recognize the food and starting picking away. It's reduced the floating bob problem where it just got sucked to the filter and it seems to last longer than when I crumbled it.

Yes I stick them to the glass too. Remember though to cover the side you are going to stick to the glass with your finger until just as you stick it on because if it gets too wet first it wont stick on. The fish learn it is food very quickly. It keeps the food in one place where it is easily eaten with no waste. Any that is left after about 5 minutes i remove.

my brineshrimp flake food has bits of freeze dried shrimp in it ...

one of the peices was pretty big and my 'bow went right for it...

the poor guy was choking for a good 2 minutes... opening and closing his mouth trying to spit it out ... =(

i guess they have big mouths but small throats.

I have a small container that I put warm water in and then I drop the freeze-dried cube into the warm water so the cube will defrost. When it is done melting I picked the food out with a spoon trying not to get the water. If I have any leftovers I put the container in the refrigerator and feed the rest to my fish the next day
