My bristlenose pleco never comes out of his hiding place during the day, only at night once everything is dark, and when i try to look at him with a bit of light he quickly swims back to his little cave. His there any way of getting him out during the day? When I buoght him from the LFS he was out with the lights on, any suggestions?

Drop in an algae tablet and sit totally still, it should come out for a snack when he smells the food.

Mine will usually come out at night when I turn off the tank lights, but keep enough light on to where I can see it.

I had same issue with my L102 Snowball Plec - put his food out 1 hr before lights out and sat really still away from the tank and he came out and munched away

some cat's are just shy!
how long have you had it? apparently cat's / plecos take a while to acclimatise to their new home.
My snowball had been in the LFS for a few months and was swimming about merrily in view of all to see. Since being in my tank I have to sneak a look at him at his favourite "hang out"!

If the fish is new, it may just take some time. My bristlenose was a bit shy when I first brought him home, now he's a bossy little guy, all over the tank day and night. He goes absolutely bonkers for his nightly algae wafer/zuchinni (courgette) slice, even though he's very well fed he's always looking for more.
A night light/moonlight is a good idea, you can use just about anything that gives off just enough light to see the tank without disturbing the fish (aquarium moon lights, a small flashlight positioned above the tank, a night light, LED strips for cars/computers, etc.). I have a 1W fluorescent night light I found at Zellers, it works very well as a moon light :)

My clown pleco is very shy too. and hates bright light. i bought him a large treasure chest with holes in it. it blocks the light above, but the larger holes in the sides allow me to see him.

I've had him for about two months, he's with cichlids, could he be scared of them? i had an algae wafer outside the cave he hides in but the cichlids usually take it right after i drop it in. I think he must be afraid of the cichlids, he only comes out when there sleeping.

Someone suggested this to me before, if you are worried he is getting beat to the food you can drop the pellet or whatever food down a tube and right to the pleco!

Or feed him at night.
