Hello all, My heater died on me this morning. So ive been reading on some posts and i think im aiming at a rena smart heater but i digress. Does any one know of any other uses for old broken aquarium heaters?

With this new one dying out i now have 4 dead ones that i keep in the hopes that maybe if i wait long enough to plug them back in they will work again, Hasnt happened so far I doubt it ever will. But i mean seriously maybe we can all send our dead heaters to be recycled in some way, mayne take parts from all broken ones to make a few good ones?

Any one know a good aquarium heater repair man..lol?

In what time span did all the heaters go bad...?

I personally like visitherm deluxes + added stealth pro. check out www.kensfish.com he has most of the heater lines (except topfin & petco) at very good prices & low shipping.
I've read also many have had heaters get blitzed, I just had 3 go.
back in the day they use to make great cheap no name heaters that lasted me 12yrs!

Well the top fin sort of still works for about 5 min., its only problem is it has condensation inside and then the heater starts working the condensation fries the electronics that on lasted about 3 years.

The tetra died out about 1 year after buying it, it just wouldnt keep the temp at 80 it keept turning off randomly then starting up randomly.

The Visatherm and Petco ones lasted about 2 years each.

Ironically enough I happen to have an older model heater that ive had since ive first kept fish that is still going strong only problem with it is the temperature gaugue doesnt work, but it does keep the water in my 55 gallon at 84 degrees constantly even though i cant lower it.

Yeah, unless you know a bit about electronics I would trash them all. never know who might end up trying them if you don't. Household AC electricity is a killer if given a chance with faulty electronics especially around and inside water. Trash -um

I do trouble-shoot my electronic stuff becasue I been trained, but if its a lost cause I also trash mine also.
