Broken heater

I have a tank full of salt water standing and awaiting for the fish arrival. However, I just noticed that the glass capsule of my heater is broken (must have happened in the last 24 hours). How is it affecting the water? is it electrified?

What should I do now?

I first unplug it and then take it out and go buy a new one. I don't think there's any harm just take it out.

I already took it out (along w/ all the broken pieces) but would it do any harm to the water?

I wouldn't think so. I would do a small water change just in case.
