there's brown stuff growing on my plastic plants.
is it brown algae?
how do i get rid of it?
is there a fish that will eat this?

it could very well be brown algae. how old is your tank? If it is brown algae, and you have room for more fish, otos do a wonderful job on brown algae....here's a link to find out more about them

Read up too because they sometimes have some acclimation issues :)

I found that just rubbing it under plain, warm tap water worked alright and my plants had been brown for quite a while.

go with the otos. I just washed my decorations under warm water and scrubbed when necessary. But this is get old fast. The otos do a fantabulous job with the brown gunk.
