Well as i expected, after adding a nice piece of driftwood that i bought into the tank, the water has turned a brownish green, i realize it will take some time before the wood stops releasing this colour into the water
my question is, should i increase water changes ? at the moment i'm doing 40% every weekend, should i do another PWC midweek?
ive only got danio's atm in my 15gal, do you think this tinge to the water bothers them?

thanks!

(oh and if anyone was wondering, yes i did boil the wood before placing it in the tank)

The fish won't mind the colour if you don't - the tannins/humic acids produced by the wood are actually beneficial to many fish species, AFAIK. You can use carbon or do extra water changes to remove it if the colour bothers you, otherwise I'd just stick with weekly water changes.

As blinky stated, it's all a matter of personal preference. However be aware that it could be a while before it stops leaching tannins. I've had mine for over 5 months now and it still leaches. I boiled mine for over eight hours, and soaked it for 4 weeks before putting it in the tank. The only thing saving me from doing water changes every other day is the fact that I have it right by my fluvals intake tube so it seems to suck up all the tannins right away.

Our fish tank is also full of brown water since putting in drift wood. It is unsightly, but how long will it take to go? It will go eventually wont it?

yes it will go away after some time. Just a fyi that drift wood is a natural product that will rot with age and get eaten by some of the critters we keep in tanks. so it will always release some things into the water but the tannins will drop with time as they leach out. If you keep many S.A. species they will like the tannins in the water my fish when I was keeping mainly tetras enjoyed the tannins so I was actually adding tannins directly into the new water when i changed water. If the color bothers you enough there are resin pieces of drift wood. I did this because of the cost of the actual root wood for a tank my size . I am thinking I may ebay or online a peice for my large tank when i buy it for the tank as I do not think I could even retail a piece of resin drift wood that big
