Okay, this is not a emergancy BUT, i was wondering how to get rid of ym brown water.

I did a water change last week and got brown water. i fgiqure this is from the drift wood i palce in the tank. ( tank is farly new setup.) Anyway, I figqured it would go away in a week. Nope. Did a change yesterday (saturday) and stilll brown. I do notice that my water is not as clear as it could be. How do i fix this problem and get clear water.

EDIT EDIT EDIT

i think it is from wood tannens or something

The filter should take care if it in time.

Did you presoak the wood before putting it in the tank?

no prosoak, and i knwo i should have. I know it is save i got it from Big Als. So i know it is okay. How long shouyld it take to go. I have carbon in teh filter and have since i started the tank

How long will it take to go, could be anywhere from two weeks to one year to have it fully gone, it depends on how much tannins there is locked inside the wood and how long it takes for those tannins to come out. If you want to speed up the process just boil it for a while, that should get most of them out. :)

as i type this, the wood is boiling in my mothers EXTERMLY LARGE stock pot. It seems to be bring the tannen out of the wood. I added some extra carbon to my filter, hopefully that will work.

Sounds good to me. :coffee:

Okay i have boiled it for 1.5 hours. That is in boiling water, not heat as well. MY house now has fogged windows. But lets hope it worked, it seems to have gotten alot out. I had tea colored water.

Thats the tannins that have come out of the wood, usually a good sign. Doing that proceedure again after changing the water will tell if you have got it out completely, very difficult to get all the tannins out I must say, but it will get to a point where you wont be able to notice if there is colour in the water.
