Bubble Nest?? Wierd Cocoon thingy

Hi guys,

I have a 90g tank of fancy tail goldies, and 3 snails (not sure what type, they are gold yellowish colored).

I was cleaning my tank today and noticed on the top corner of my tank there's a cocoon like thingy that looks like there's like round pebbles inside.

Is this a bubble nest? of what goldfishes or snails? or is it somehting else i should be worried about?

That would be your snails! very cool. Leave it if you would like to have some of the baby critters running around the tank. Scrape it off if you feel your snail population is where you wanted it.

Unless you particularly want more snails, I'd recommend getting rid of the bubble stuff. My snail population is getting huge! I doubt you'll get it all anyway, so you're already doomed to a snail population explosion, but I'd get rid of as much as you can!

I have to disagree. Snails eat up excess food etc. from the tank. Snail overpopulation is a sign of excess fish feeding. Keep your food levels in check and that in turn will keep your snail levels down. I really think snails get a bad rap in the aquaria keeping world. They are wonderful additions to the tank when kept in check. So if you have a population explosion, watch your feeding habits. If you only put in enough that your fish eat it and there is no excess for the snails...well...you could guess what happens. I myself have been purposely feeding our mystery snails extra algea wafers and food. I WANT some babies! LOL :thm:

To deal with over population you could always get a tank size appropriate loach or botia. They will goble up the snails and be fat happy little fishies. Plus they are a really cool addition to your tank. My golden zebra botia's stay small (3-4") and even make a cute little clicky noise when they are happy (which is usually when they are eating). If you want to keep the snails..cut back on feeding and don't get a loach. No snail is safe around them! LOL
 
well currently i only have 3 snails in my tank.... so i dont think the babies will overpopulate anything yet... i'm really excited... i keep checking the bubble to see changes, but havent seen any yet still....

plus im sure when they're born my goldies will gobble some up...


Are loach or botia safe with goldies??? i know plecos are a bad no-no....
