Anyone have any problem with the Filstar XP3? Mine has been collecting air bubbles in the canister and then blowing them into the tank. I have a salt water tank but I figured that this would be a better question in the fresh water forum. Thanks for any responses.:D

I don't have a filstar, but there was disscussion on this very issue in this forum with a few members. it may have been before the forums moved but maybe a search would help you.

in short, yes that seems to happen with filstars, but it is unknown if there will be an issue with it after time.

thanks, I'll do a search. If there are any other suggestions that would be great.

Hey syngent, I recently got a XP3 and hooked it up to my 55gal tank. I was excited to perform maintenance on it after 2 weeks (since all I've ever heard is how hard it is to maintain canisters and looking at this thing I couldn't imagine it being difficult! It wasn't!). It didn't blow bubbles initially, but after rinsing out sponges and reassembling it, it did. I think air was just trapped in the sponges. It took a while for them all to work out. I tried turning it off a couple times but resorted to giving it a quick short shake to release the air in the sponges as water was flowing through. It worked! I don't think this problem will persist once I remove the sponges and replace them with ceramic noodles. Hope this helps!

Actually I don't hav any media in the canister except for a couple of the bio-stars (~10). The problem still persists. I spoke to someone at rena and they said that it could be the connection at the quick-dsiconnect or where the cover sits on the canister.

Air Accessory Device

I love the options the Filstar has.... There is an air attachment that connects to the outlet tube -- remove it. :)

It's called a 'Venturi' in the instruction manual...
