Building a newt vivarium. Advice welcomed :D

SO far the sand works well. He seems ok with it all and now has three white mtn minnow as tank mates. More pics to come very soon
I was considering firebelly newts and read somewhere that White Cloud Mountain Minnow MAY be compatible. how is that working for you?
I already have zebra danios i thought might work, but not sure if I want to risk newts being nipped at to death or unable to get their food.
