building rock formations

I know alot of people have those rock structures, the ones where you take peices of rock that are flat and make formations. Forgive me for sounding dumb! :joke: But anyways I'm sure a few of you have these, could you guys help me out with what type of rock to get or how to build or what to glue with? Also has anyone had problems with your rocks effecting your ph or other levels? Thanks, these look really neat and provide lots of hiding spots I'm sure so I would really like to have one!

I have used shale (I have a friend with a quart so it was easy pickings). I had no problems with it effecting the water; I just cleaned them well. As for gluing them I have used aquarium silicone, but it does not hold all that well. I have also used epoxy and that worked much better.

slate is commonly used in FW aquariums. you can use silicon to stick it together, Jericho said epoxy but i don't know what that is. :duh:

epoxy is a well trusted, aquarium safe adhesive...I'd go with epoxy

to make a cave, take two rocks and line them up parallel to each other, then glue on a top, then, if you want, add a back.
